Literacy :
We are looking at r-controlled vowel “ar”. This occurs when the letter ‘r’ follows ‘a’, causing the ‘a’ to produce a new, combined sound, often called the “bossy r” /är/ sound, as in car, star, and farm.
*** We are at the point in the year where word work and spelling rules are becoming more complex, and there is a lot for students to remember. This is why nightly reading is so important. These words frequently appear in the books students read, and the more exposure they have to them, the easier it becomes to recognize and decode them.
The following are the heart words we have covered so far this school year. Students should be able to read these words.

Math:
We will spend the week reviewing addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers (without regrouping) and finish the week with a quiz. Next week we will move on to regrouping and borrowing which can sometimes be a tricky concept for students.
