You will notice again in this week’s newsletter that there is extra practice in Literacy and Math. This is not homework, just options for those looking for extra practice at home.
Weather:
Hey parents! The weather is changing, and it is time to get geared up for colder temperatures. Please have a chat with your child concerning what they are expected to wear outside. Last week, we had a lot of students trying to sneak out without jackets, hats or gloves.
Just a friendly reminder to send your child to school ready for outside. K-5 students go outside first thing in the morning, at snack, lunch and from 2:30 to 2:50.
Literacy:
This week we will look at the “ng” sound.
- The “ng” sound is most commonly found in words ending in “ing” but can also be found in “ang”, “ong” and “ung”.
- It is different from “n”, this sound is made by placing the tip of the tongue to the gum ridge just behind your teeth. Think of the word “sun” or “bin“.
- Where “ng” is made by raising the back of your tongue to touch the soft palate at the back of your mouth, blocking the air from exiting your mouth, and letting it escape through your nose.

Math:
We will continue to work on addition but also look at money. We have already looked at counting nickels (¢5, counting by 5’s), dimes (¢10, counting by 10’s) and introduced quarters (¢25, counting by 25). This week students will look at identifying the different coins and bills and counting mixed change up to $1.
