We are looking at “le” at the end of a word. If the le word has a short vowel sound, the consonant before the le is doubled, e.g. giggle. If the le word has a long vowel sound, then the consonant before the le is single, e.g. table. Our main focus will be reading words with le at the end.

*** We are at the point in the year where word work and spelling rules are becoming more complex, and there is a lot for students to remember. This is why nightly reading is so important. These words frequently appear in the books students read, and the more exposure they have to them, the easier it becomes to recognize and decode them.

The following are the heart words we have covered so far this school year. Students should be able to read these words.
