Literacy:
This week we will look at the “ch” sound.
We use “-ch”
- At the beginning of a word: Examples: chip, chair, choose
- After a consonant: Examples: lunch, bench, punch
- After a long vowel or a vowel team: Examples: peach, beach
Word work
chip – chum – much – lunch – pinch – check
Heart Words
walk – talk
Math:
We will move on to doubles this week. The “doubles” math strategy is adding a number to itself, such as 5+5=10. This is a foundational strategy for more complex addition and is very important moving forward.
Math Extra Practice (doubles)
1 + 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4
3 + 3 = 6
4 + 4 = 8
5 + 5 = 10
6 + 6 = 12
7 + 7 = 14
8 + 8 = 16
9 + 9 = 18
10 + 10 = 20
11 + 11 = 22
12 + 12 = 24

Math sheet
You will notice in this week’s newsletter that there is extra practice in Literacy. This is not homework, just options for those looking for extra practice at home.
Literacy:
This week we will look at the unvoiced “th” sound. The main rule for this sound is that unvoiced \”th\” is made with only air. A simple rule to remember is that words starting with “th” like “thin” or “think” are usually unvoiced, and words in the middle of a word like “mother” or “father” are voiced (last week).
Word work
thin – thud – bath – with – cloth- tenth
Heart Words
were – goes – says
Math:
We will continue with basic addition this week. We will spend the week reviewing grade 1 concepts (addition with 10) and move on to addition within 20.
Math Extra Practice (random questions)
8 + 2 = 10
6 + 3 = 9
2 + 5 = 7
10 + 4 = 14
4 + 3 = 7
5 + 4 = 9
3 + 7 = 10
3 + 5 = 8

Exploratory:
We will continue to lean about healthy eating and food guides.
Have a great week!
