Homework: Read
For homework, students are asked to read at home at least 3 nights this week. Students may read books they have at home or use the guided reading books in their homework bag. As most parents are aware, the province has implemented a new curriculum and the way we teach literacy in the classroom has changed. Even with these changes, it is still important that students get exposed books and print. Although the books in your child’s homework bag are levelled, this does not necessarily correlate with their current reading abilities. They are simply books your child may be interested in reading for homework.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Terry Fox Walk:
Thank you to everyone who sent in donations to the Terry Fox Foundation.
Math:
We will continue to explore numbers to 100 this week. We will continue to review skip counting by 2’s to 100, skip counting by 10’s to 100 and place value (base 10 and expanded form) to 100.
Literacy:
This week we will look at the “ck” sound/rule at the end of a word. If a word has a short vowel and ends in a “k” sound then we use ck for spelling.
Word work
back – deck – sick – rock – duck -stuck
Heart Words
your – want – goes- says
Reminders:
- Please do not send personal items such as toys to school.
- Please try to take a quick peek in your child’s homework bag and agenda each night. Please sign and return your child’s agenda each day. Homework folders can stay home for the week (return on Friday’s or the last day of the week).
- The newsletter in the folder is yours to keep.
- The cafeteria is open and students are enjoying the tasty options. If your child is buying, it’s a good idea to write a note letting your child know what their money is for ( snack/lunch or both ). Some students have been spending all their money at snack but still wanting to buy at lunch.
Have a great week!
