Literacy:
We are looking at the y that makes a long i sound. The “Y” makes the long “i” sound rule is when “y” acts as a vowel at the end of a one-syllable word, it says its own name (like in my, fly, cry).
*** We are at the point in the year where word work and rules are starting to get complicated and there is a lot to remember. This is why it is so very important for students to do their nightly reading. These are all words that students are exposed to in books and the more exposure they get, the easier it is to recognize and decode these words.
